Des O’Connor Loves Shanklin Theatre

Des O’Connor is a man who knows a thing or two about theatres in the UK.

Des O'Connor Loves Shanklin TheatreDuring his long career, he’s played in the majority of them up and down the country.

Last Saturday he was singing the praises of Shanklin Theatre during his show there.

The long-time entertainer told the audience that he’d been made to feel very welcome there by the theatre’s management and was particularly complementary of the food he’d been given.

High praise indeed.

“Don’t let it be turned into a bingo hall”
Along with the praise, he also sounded a bell of warning, “it’s a lovely old building … and don’t let it be turned into a bingo hall or a block of flats as that would be no good to anyone.”

He finished the sentence with a traditional bit of Des humour, “… unless of course your looking for a flat!”

“A real gentleman”
VB chatted to Nolan Winter, the manager at Shanklin, who was clearly impressed with Des, “He was a real gentleman – relaxed, polite and had time for everyone.

“I managed to sit down and have a chat with him before the show and he made a point of asking about the history of the place, how I was, my family etc. He even went out of his way to say goodbye to us individually and remembered every single one of our names.”

Thanks to VB reader, Adam, for getting in touch with us about this one.
