Members of the Regulatory Committee will be considering a report on ‘Determination of the Table of Fares in respect of Hackney Carriages’ on 10th December.
Residents who wish to use a vehicle ‘for hire and reward’ (ie. run a taxi service) are required to obtain a licence from the local authority under Part II of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976. Under the Act, the local authority can also fix the rates or fares.
The new table of fares (embedded below for your convenience) shows a rise of 5p from 40p to 45p for ‘Each Subsequent 1/4 mile’ after the first 1/2 mile.
The report makes for interesting reading, if you’re of the opinion that taking a taxi on the Isle of Wight is more expensive than elsewhere, we’d suggest reading the report (below) to see the comparisons with the national average and southern average.
