Music For Ukraine returns to Quay Arts on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th April. The fundraising event first started in 2022 and took place again in 2023, and now returns for a further weekend full of live blues, jazz, folk and soul music.
The previous events have raised many thousands of pounds for local charity MAD-Aid, who are again the beneficiaries of this year’s fundraising. Currently, MAD-Aid is focused on refurbishing the main children’s hospital in Moldova, addressing the urgent needs of children and mothers coming from Ukraine, as in Ukraine they mostly are treating wounded solders.
This initiative is crucial due to the dilapidated condition of the hospital, a result of years of poverty and neglect. MAD-Aid is also recycling medical and disability equipment from the UK healthcare sector and is shipping it to Ukraine and Moldova.
Free entry with donations
The weekend’s musical line-up has been organised by local musician Jim Thorn. Entry to Quay Arts is free all weekend, but donations to MAD-Aid are invited.
Quay Arts will have its bar and cafe open as usual.
Jim said,
“I am delighted that the Quay Arts have decided to host another Music for Ukraine, and I hope it is well supported by the public so that MAD-Aid can raise funds they desperately need to keep their efforts going in Eastern Europe.
“I am very grateful for all the support from the local music scene. We have a wide range of musical acts who are all playing for free, including some very well known local names, plus sound engineering and stewarding from volunteers too.”
Join the line-up
The full line-up is shown below, but there is still space on Saturday for any additional musicians to join in.
