Diarrhoea Outbreak at St Mary’s Affects Visiting Times

This in from IW NHS, in their own words. Ed

Due to a small number of cases of diarrhoea and vomiting at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, we are reminding visitors of the restricted visiting times and hygiene requirements.

The visiting times are between the hours of 2.00 – 3.00pm and 7.00 – 8.00pm. Please contact the ward before visiting to ensure you have the latest information.

“Only visit hospital if vital”
Due to these cases of diarrhoea and vomiting, we would ask that you only visit the hospital if vital.

If you have to visit the hospital, we request that you be alert and make sure you pay extra attention to hand hygiene. Germs spread quickly, so make sure you keep your hands clean at all times.

Shane Moody, Deputy Chief Nurse and Head of Clinical Standards at NHS Isle of Wight said: “If you have been ill please do not visit the hospital until at least 48 hours after the last symptoms. This will help restrict the spread of infection. Thank you for your support.”
