Discover Kate Gooden’s dreamscape paintings at Ventnor’s Gallery 44 exhibition

Local artist Kate Gooden has an exhibition of her paintings at the new Gallery 44 in Ventnor High Street until 27th June 2025.

Visitors to Ventnor may remember her ceramic pots and quirky paintings, which were often on show in the window of her late husband Simon’s taxi business, Randalls.

Desolate dreamscapes
Kate lives in St Lawrence. She loves to paint, and through the process of daubing, smearing, splattering and stippling, she calls forth desolate dreamscapes where colourful creatures creep and strut.

Kate claims that she doesn’t choose her subjects, but merely channels them in a shamanic trance fuelled by tea and paint fumes, inviting them to inhabit her canvases to tell their own stories.

Creative family
The Goodens are a creative bunch: Kate is an accomplished artist and baker; her son Pat has his own band, Big Red, and Simon was the lead singer and guitarist in local band Watevva.

Gallery 44, at 44 High Street, Ventnor is open 10am to 4pm every day.
