Discover the initiatives shaping Sandown’s future: Community groups gather to discuss youth engagement

The latest work to engage young people in Sandown is the subject of a get-together for the town’s community groups this month, when Bay resilience officer Julian Wadsworth addresses a meeting of Sandown Forum.

Since 2021, the Resilience Project run by Community Action Isle of Wight has been behind the development of sports activities, film-making projects and other initiatives which include talking to young people about their needs.

A chance to meet, swap information and share ideas
Cllr Heather Humby, who set up Sandown Forum in 1996, is inviting new community groups to come along,

“We have a vibrant community sector in Sandown, and the Forum offers groups the chance to meet, swap information, share ideas and hear speakers like Julian Wadsworth whose work is so important.

“We have everyone from Green Town Volunteers and Sandown Carnival to sports clubs, women’s organisations, environmental and arts groups and others all coming along to learn what’s going on.

“The Forum is independent of party politics and we always welcome new groups to join us.”

Where and when
The Sandown Forum meeting is on Monday 24th April, 7.30pm at the Broadway Centre, Broadway, Sandown PO36 9GG.
