As in previous years, the advice from the Safety Advisory Group is that walkers are asked not to attempt the low-tide walk to St Helen’s seafort from the beaches of Bembridge and St Helens again this year.
Also, as in the last few years the council will be control parking and access at Duver Road, St Helens so that parking along the narrow road does not block access for residents and emergency vehicles.
Do not put yourselves, volunteers and emergency services at risk
A spokesman for the group said,
“The St Helens fort walk is an informal event with no organiser and anyone choosing to do the walk does so at their own risk.
“In previous years we have asked people not to attempt the walk and people have respected that.
“Please do not put yourselves, volunteers and emergency services at risk. We are grateful to those people who choose not to take part, but to anyone who is thinking about undertaking the walk our advice to them is please stay away and enjoy one of the many safer beaches on the Island instead.
“It will also be another hot weekend and if anyone is out and about please follow the advice to stay hydrated, safe and well.”
