The Solent fort that was previously best-known for being one of the locations in the 1972 BBC Doctor Who series, ‘The Sea Devils’, has undergone a serious transformation.
Originally built between 1867 and 1880 to defend Portsmouth against a Napoleonic invasion and a far cry from the grimy 1970s version, No Man’s Land Fort now been changed into a 22-suite luxury venue.
Its sister, Spitbank Fort, received a major makeover at the start of this decade, completing in 2012, going on to win Isle of Wight RIBA award in 2013.

Doctor Who: The Sea Devils
The Sea Devils, much feared by children, were, the Dr Who storyline would have us believe, disturbed from the depths when extensive works were carried out on the Fort – so post-refurbishment, fingers-crossed.
The ’70s Doctors Who episodes were also filmed around Isle of Wight beaches and the Portsmouth Naval Base. They even squeezed in, rather brilliantly, an SRN5 hovercraft.
