This Saturday campaigners will gather in towns and cities up and down the country – under the umbrella of the People’s Assembly – to protest the worsening conditions faced by so many in our communities as the cost-of-living crisis starts to bite.
Cuts for those who can least afford them
Despite rocketing levels of child poverty and ever climbing rates of food bank use, the government has offered nothing but further cuts to those who can least afford them by cutting universal credit and adding additional taxes onto the pay-packets of workers.
Energy companies record bumper profits
Meanwhile the cost of energy has surged and will do so again in October. Millions up and down the country are looking forward to even greater hardship when next winter comes upon us, all the while – with the green light from the government – energy companies record bumper profits.
Doing nothing isn’t an option
Participants in Saturday’s events know that things will not change overnight, but for them doing nothing when our elderly neighbours are cold and children start going hungry isn’t an option.
Where and when
Gather from noon in St James’s Square, Newport on Saturday 7th May.
