This summer, East Cowes Crafters have been busy creating poignant images of remembrance, to extend their poppy appeal displays. Each year, their work brings the local community together, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual support.
The crafters’ dedication reflects a powerful commitment to honouring those impacted by war, ensuring that their sacrifice is remembered with care and creativity.
A new home for the crafters
The crafters have moved from their previous workspace in the former convent to a new location at the town hall. The shift has brought renewed energy to their efforts, as they create exhibits that add fresh dimensions to their message of remembrance.
Councillor Karl Love, who has closely followed the crafters’ journey, remarked on the lively atmosphere that now fills the town hall. He said,
“I often hear their joy and excitement of creating a new dimension of remembrance.
“East Cowes paid a heavy price alongside many others in armed conflicts—civilians and those who served to defend our freedoms and democracy.”
Remembrance services scheduled
The annual remembrance services in East Cowes are a cherished tradition, and this year, two gatherings are planned at St James Church, East Cowes.
The main service will be held on Sunday 10th November, beginning at 10.30am, with another gathering on Monday 11th November, at 10.20am. Both will be held around the cenotaph, where residents can join in reflection and gratitude.
A community united in tribute
Councillor Love’s photos showcase the displays created by East Cowes Crafters, highlighting their commitment to remembrance and their appreciation for the community they serve.
Through their work, they offer a meaningful tribute to those who have been affected by armed conflict, ensuring their stories are honoured and preserved for generations to come.
