East Cowes Esplanade Landslip by Allan Marsh

Further movement at the East Cowes Esplanade landslip (photos)

Following on from our report on Saturday of the East Cowes Esplanade landslip, OnTheWight got in touch with Island Roads for more detail.

A spokesperson for Island Roads confirmed they were made aware of the landslip on East Cowes Esplanade by the Isle of Wight Council on Friday (25 April) afternoon and, “took immediate steps to put appropriate measures in place, including the road closure, to ensure public safety.”

Being assessed by the council
They say the adjacent land is the responsibility of the Isle of Wight council and they’ll be undertaking assessments as soon as they can gain access to the site.

The road closure will remain in place until Island Roads are advised by the council what actions they are taking to ensure that it is safe to re-open the road.

Stay safe
Island Roads ask members of the public to not go beyond the barriers, which are there for public safety.

Our thanks to Allan Marsh for this further set of photos from the site.
