Ahead of tomorrow’s town council meeting, Cllr Hillard sets out her concerns for the future of Down House and urges residents to have their say. Ed
I worked very hard to get the Town Council to agree the following, “In principle to support a community purchase of Down House site and undertake a public consultation and investigate a joint venture purchase of the site.”
I have now found out (via the agenda) that at tomorrow’s (Thursday 7pm) meeting FOUR of our Town Councillors have signed a motion to reverse the above decision. I cannot understand how they can be serving the best interests of the town by blocking consultation with our residents, and won’t even investigate whether Down House is affordable.
Knowing that two Councillors who supported the original decision will be away, the Mayor and I will be easily outvoted.
I have tried my best to get this opportunity for you but I have done as much as I can. Are these four councillors representing your best interests? Unless you make your opinions known to them, the opportunity to buy Down House will be gone and we risk another Frank James Hospital.
