East Cowes water butts are on their way, say Southern Water

If you live in East Cowes and are wondering when you’ll receive your free water butt from Southern Water, quite soon, is the message from the water company.

Residents in certain roads in the town would have received an invitation to receive a slow-drain water butt as part of the Isle of Wight pathfinder project to reduce storm overflow releases.

Southern Water say they are in the process of delivering the water butts to those residents who indicated they wanted one.

A spokesperson explained,

“Our team will be going door-to-door for as long as it takes to install water butts for everyone who is eligible and accepts them. If you’d like a water butt, we promise you’ll receive one.

“If no one is in, we will wait until we have sufficient demand to re-attend at evenings or at weekends. Once we’ve made three attempts to install a water butt at your property, we’ll leave a ‘sorry we missed you card’ where you can indicate whether you’d like a water butt and whether an evening or weekend would be more appropriate. We will never install a water butt while you are not at home.”

To find out more about the project, please head to the Clean Rivers and Seas Task Force page, view the FAQs beneath or call Southern Water on 0330 303 0368.

Southern Water ask that residents do not contact them to request a water butt – they promise they will get to you as soon as they can and will follow the process above.
