From The East … A weekend of colour, creativity and celebration

From The East artwork

Four years ago, at Southgrove Terrace in Ventnor, there was a landslide.

The landslide demolished and gobbled up the kitchen of No.4 and made considerable damage to neighbouring homes. After a lengthy process of rebuilding roads, walls and kitchen, No.4 has been returned to its former glory.

The only thing now is, that it stands empty. Waiting for a family to come and bring it to life again (as it is on the market.)

Before that happens and very soon, the house will be turned into an Aladdin’s Cave of creative – Island and Far East – treasure!

From The East …
On the 4th and 5th of January 2014 No.4 Southgrove Terrace will have its empty shell filled with local creations.

Organisers Rosalind Noctor (who grew up at number 4 and now lives in Tel Aviv) and local gal and ‘Dream Catcher’, Gemma Read, plan to turn the empty shell into a pop up house sale, an ‘aladin’s cave’, full of colour, creativity and celebration.

“We want to use this great space to create a relaxed, informal and fun way for people to share their creative talents and let others share in their fruitful creations. We wish to have a broad range of items on offer to buy and 10% of all sales will be donated to the Island Chemotherapy Unit.”

Rosalind claims that in Tel Aviv, this kind of ‘house sale’ is a common event.

“There are so many creative people around, whether it’s painting, illustration, woodwork, ceramics, fashion…and not everyone of these doers, has the ways or means of selling their work professionally. I am a dancer by profession but I also make clothes and people were always asking me where I sold them…so that was a good enough reason to create a pop up house sale! I know the Island has many creative and talented people hiding away so I want to create this event to share with them.”

Enlisting the ‘dream catcher’
Rosalind enlisted the ‘dream catcher’, talents of Miss Gemma Read who lives to impassion people and bring together liked minded and creative doers on the Island.

Rosalind and Gemma both agreed,

“It’s great to create a little world of inspiration with other creative people. The event is special because it’s outside of studios and galleries, it’s a relaxed and non-judgemental way to share and sell. For a short time something magic and beautiful can happen that can be shared with the public. Also we both believe in keeping things local and rather then buy in big chain stores and on the internet, why not look first within your community, support and inspire each other!”
