The Environment Agency have issued a flood alert for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.
The alert (issued at 3.50pm on Friday 30th Jan 2026) reads:
High river levels over the next three days may lead to flooding.
Flooding is possible from the early hours of 31 January 2026 .
Further rain is forecast today (30/01/2026) and Saturday (31/01/2026).Up to 15mm is possible. If this affects the Eastern Yar, flooding could affect low lying land, roads, cycle tracks and footpaths close to the river. At Langbridge and Alverstone, the river will be close to bank full.
Flooding of Golf Links Road and Moreton Common Road will continue into the weekend. Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high.
River levels will remain high and flooding impacts will continue for at least the next 24 hours and probably through the weekend at Sandown.
We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and operating Bembridge sluices.
Consider activating any flood protection products you may have including in Alverstone.
