Edana Mingella’s Jazz Quartet head to Ventnor for Vaguely Sunny / Ventnor Exchange concert

Isle of Wight promoters Vaguely Sunny are joining forces with Ventnor Exchange to present a jazz concert by the Edana Minghella Quartet.

Back in 2007 Vaguely Sunny were instrumental in helping to arrange Edana’s very first Isle of Wight gig back.

An accomplished mainstream jazz vocalist
Since then Edana has gone on to establish herself as an accomplished mainstream jazz vocalist, performing at festivals and jazz clubs in the UK and in Europe.

Edana will be joined by Mark Edwards on piano, Pete Maxfield on bass and Tony Woods on sax.

About the artist
Having grown up with music, Edana explains,

“We’d all sing together and music was hugely important to all of us, always. But it was only in later life that I explored my own musical creativity after a career in mental health policy and research. I’d always loved jazz, and I was inspired by a family event to try to see if I could make something of my own vocal leanings.

“My brother Anthony Minghella, the film director, made a film called the Talented Mr Ripley, starring Matt Damon and Jude Law.  Jazz was a major part of the soundtrack of that movie, which was a total joy. A few months after the film’s release, my parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and my brother arranged for a band of wonderful musicians from the movie to play at the party. They kindly let me sing with them, and that ignited my ambitions. I haven’t looked back.”

With two albums under her belt and a third in the pipeline, music isn’t the only feather to Edana’s bow. Edana has been living in Tuscany, Italy where she runs writing retreats, and also writes and works on the TV show Doc Martin, created by her brother Dominic.

Edana says,

“After a painful almost two years without being able to play live because of Covid, I’m so happy to have gigs coming up in the autumn.”
