Nine year old Emma Wyeth had a special reason for visiting the new lifeboat station at Cowes today.

Her painting won a competition open to all schools in the Cowes and East Cowes area, run by the station as part of the RNLI’s recent nation-wide SOS Day, organised by Steve Price. Emma’s work, now hanging over the station stairs, was one of 30 or so paintings submitted by Gurnard Primary School.

Local artist judged the competition
The judging was done by Frank Jacobs who as well as becoming a much-respected local watercolour artist in his retirement was also, co-incidentally, once headmaster of the school when it was Solent Middle.

Pictured with the lifeboat is Emma, of Rew Street, Gurnard, was her mother, Sarah, and Frank Jacobs.
