Ex-Banksy In Shanklin: Now Framed! (Photo Gallery)

Remember the story of the Banksy painting on the Isle of Wight that was painted over?

Frame around painted over Shanklin Banksy

Well, there’s an amusing twist to the story.

To recap – ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ Banksy artwork discovered in Shanklin; aficionado on Banksy’s work hears about it and makes 120 mile round trip to Shanklin to photograph it, only to find that it’d been painted over.

The frame appears!
It just so happened that we were wandering past the particular corner of Shanklin (unusual, as it’s not often visited) and we saw some clever wags have created their own art piece – by mounting a huge frame around the white space where the Shanklin Banksy had been over-painted. Brilliant!

Looking at the wall, it’s notable that the section of wall that the ex-Banksy is on is certainly the best-painted section of the whole building, adding further irony to the ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ title of the now-vanished original piece.
