Experienced Master Mariner to take over as Harbour Master for Cowes

Cowes Harbour Commission (CHC) is pleased to announce the appointment of new Harbour Master, Captain Shane Wood.

Reporting into CEO Gary Hall, Captain Wood will join the CHC team in February 2023 and take on the statutory duties and areas of responsibly currently managed by Cowes Harbour Master, Ed Walker.

Will help deliver the five-year strategic plan
As Harbour Master, Captain Wood’s key focus will be managing a safe harbour, but he will also work alongside the CHC board and Senior Leadership Team to help deliver the five-year strategic plan.

30 years of experience
As a Master Mariner with over 30 years of experience with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) and extensive experience of piloting, ship handling and dredgers during the past seven years, Captain Wood has a clear understanding of the many aspects of the role of Harbour Master in Cowes and what it takes to instill a ‘Beyond Zero’ safety culture.

He is also a Cowes resident, so understands the importance of the harbour in the economic prosperity of both East and West Cowes.

Hall: Look forward to developing on the solid foundations
