Farmersboy: Rest in Peace

Tributes have been pouring in for long time member of the VentnorBlog Discussion Forum, Farmersboy, who sadly passed away on Monday this week.

Farmersboy: Rest in PeaceA message was posted from his account last night and ignited a heartfelt response from members of the forum who were saddened to hear of his passing.

We understand that he served in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Regiment and anyone serving in this regiment were known as “Farmers Boys” hence the name he chose to write under on the forum.

Since joining the VB forum in June 2006, Farmersboy posted a whopping 1168 posts on a massive variety of subjects. As has been said in the tributes, he made us laugh, sometimes shout and occasionally pull our hair out – he loved winding people up – but it was always done with good humour.

He was very keen to protect his anonymity (even from his close neighbours it seems). When we invited him along to the private view of the VentnorBlog Presents exhibition in February, his response was

NICE TRY, I aim to remain anonymous on the Blog for as long as possible, therefor I am afraid I shall have to turn down your invitation to next weeks viewing. I wish you all best wishes with it and hope it’s a great success.

Our sincerest thoughts go to Derek’s family and friends. For those who wish to pay their respects, the funeral service will be held on Thursday 16th October, 2.30 pm St Catherine’s Church, Ventnor followed by wake at 4.30pm Ventnor Royal British Legion Club High Street Ventnor.
