Farringford Estate, the former home of poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, appears on Gardeners’ World this Friday evening (14th August).
BBC Two airs the episode at 8pm, and it pairs the Isle of Wight estate with a gardener in East Anglia who champions naturalistic planting.
The show’s own blurb promises viewers “the incredible story of how they’ve reimagined the Victorian garden” at Farringford.
Anyone who misses the live broadcast can catch Ellen & Ali Penstone Smith in the episode later on iPlayer.
A heatwave shoot
Film crews visited Farringford during the recent heatwave, and the team found the conditions gruelling.
A spokesperson for Farringford described the shoot directly,
“They came to film in the last heatwave and it was sweltering.”
Despite the heat, the team captured the estate’s grounds in full summer form.
Excitement builds ahead of broadcast
The Farringford team can barely contain their excitement about the upcoming appearance.
In a statement, a spokesperson said,
“We’re super excited to share that we are going to be featured on Gardeners World this week!”
They urged supporters to make a note of the date and time,
“Please put 8pm on Friday – BBC 2 in your diary!”
The spokesperson also flagged the catch-up option for anyone who can’t tune in live,
“If you can’t watch it then it will be on catch up.”
Tennyson’s garden restored
Tennyson lived at Farringford for close to 40 years, and the current owners have spent years restoring its Victorian character.
The Gardeners’ World feature gives that restoration work a national audience.
The Farringford team said they “are very excited to see the episode and share with you the story of the restored garden.”
Islanders and Tennyson enthusiasts alike can now look forward to seeing the estate’s gardens reach screens across the country on Friday.
