Final weekend of Ventnor Fringe brings shows for all tastes

Last updated:

As we enter the last weekend of Ventnor Fringe Festival, there are still many shows to catch, from live music to comedy, theatre to workshops and many more in between.

See the Ventnor Fringe website or mobile planner to see the full programme of events.

Free Fringe events
There will also be plenty of Free Fringe events too, so if pennies are short, take a look at the Free Fringe programme, have a mouch around town and soak up the festival vibes.

Don’t miss The Dippers on Saturday on Ventnor Beach (11am and 2pm), and if you haven’t been the Fringe Square yet, make sure you check out Ventnor Book Bus and Medina Bookstall.

If you can’t choose what to do or see, here are three shows you might be interested in.

Rabbits, magic and a five-star Edinburgh run
Norvil & Josephine arrive fresh from a five-star season at Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Rabbits Out of the Hat, a 1905-set magic musical about a magician with a secret and an assistant with a mission of her own.

The Magical Mr West of Morgan & West called it “absolutely bonkers,” adding, “I’ve never seen anything like it,” while One4Review praised a show that “absolutely sparkles with originality.”

You can see the show at Ventnor Exchange Arena at Flowersbrook on 25th July at 1pm, tickets from £10, suitable for ages five and up. Book now.

Shakespeare, but nobody knows how it ends
Impromptu Shakespeare kicks things off with a genuinely different proposition: a full Shakespeare play, invented on the spot, using suggestions shouted out by the audience.

The touring company has already won Best Comedy Event at the Buxton Fringe and appeared on BBC Shakespeare Live, and BBC Arts Editor Will Gompertz called the show “ingenious and very funny.”

Cast members carry proper Shakespearean credentials too, with academic dissertations, classical training and Shakespeare’s Globe credits between them.

You’ll find them at Ventnor Exchange Arena at Flowersbrook on Saturday 25th July starting 3.30pm, with tickets running from £10 to £20. Book now.

A violin, a viola d’amore and a father’s railway years
Isle of Wight-born violinist Charlie Wild turns her own family history into music for her debut show, The Railwayman and Other Stories.

Her father worked the Isle of Wight Railway through the 1970s and 80s, and Charlie sets his memories against genuine vintage film footage from that era.

The show lands at Ventnor Arts Club on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July, both at 1.45pm, with general admission at £14 and £10 for Culture Pass holders. Book now.
