In the week that Earl Mountbatten Hospice is presented with its prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the hospice is launching a campaign to encourage more volunteers to join its award winning team.
A number of service areas are seeking volunteers for a diverse range of opportunities, and further information will be available in the coming weeks. Initially, however, the hospice is hoping to attract new volunteers to support its catering service.
As part of plans to extend services to reach more patients, families and visitors, the hospice is aiming to open its Sunflower Café for longer.
The Sunflower Café
Currently, the café is open from 8am until 4pm during the week and offers a light bite and lunch menu in a friendly, relaxed and welcoming environment for people attending the John Cheverton Centre, patients and families being cared for on our Inpatient Unit and anyone who would like to pop in for delicious cuisine as a place to meet friends.
On Sundays, customers can enjoy a delicious three-course lunch for just £7.95 for adults and £5 for children.
With the help of additional volunteers, it would be possible to extend the cafe service up until 8pm in the evenings, seven days a week.
Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive, said:
“Already we have a wonderful team of volunteers and staff who serve delicious food and provide a very welcoming atmosphere. But we would like to be able to offer our patients, families and anyone else who visits, the opportunity to relax and enjoy our café later into the evening.
“Our John Cheverton Centre is a really important place for people to spend time together, and whether they are using our services or not, it provides great place to share experiences. Please do consider volunteering as it would really make a big difference to the number of people we can support.”
