Fire Control Centre Move To Be Discussed At Cabinet Tonight

Following Cllr Geoff Lumley’s further machinations over the fire control centre decision, the papers for tonight’s Cabinet meeting have now been released.

Chit chatPaper G considers the implications of the following motion by Cllr Geoff Lumley to Full Council in relation to fire control.

“Council resolves, in the light of increasing public concern, to recommend to the cabinet that they reverse the 2011 Budget decision and subsequent delegated decision (15/11) to transfer the Isle of Wight Fire Control service to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, with the loss of savings for this year of £125k to be drawn from General Reserves. Further it recommends to Cabinet that any future alternative provision of this service must be Island based and preferably based on a shared emergency services approach.”

Must be debated by Cabinet before full council
It will be brought to Cabinet following the stalled discussion at last week’s Full Council meeting, due to Procedure Rule 11.

If you missed the article report from the meeting, briefly, Full Council cannot discuss a motion that may affect the current finances unless it has been discussed by Cabinet first.

Tonight will see that debate take place with the three options being presented to the Cabinet members as

  1. To vote against the motion to recommend cabinet to reverse the decision to merge fire control with Surrey and therefore to affirm the cabinet decision to merge fire control with Surrey.
  2. To vote for the motion to recommend cabinet to reverse the decision to merge fire control with Surrey and to take £125k from general reserves or,
  3. To vote for an amended motion
