Fire Service In Running for Major Award

Fantastic news for our great Fire Service. This in from the council. Ed

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has been shortlisted for one of the region’s most prestigious awards.

The service is one of three finalists to be selected for the British Quality Foundation Southern England Excellence Awards.

The awards honour organisations that actively pursue and measure a comprehensive approach to performance improvement.

In 2004, the Fire and Rescue Service was rated as one of the poorest performing in the UK but since then has completed a U-turn and has demonstrated significant improvement.

This has already been recognised by the service being presented with the Fire and Rescue Service of the Year Award 2010 by the South East Improvement Partnership.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has a little wait until it finds out if it has won. The 2010 Southern England Excellence Awards final is being held in London on Thursday 21 October.
