Ryde Inshore Rescue LogoRyde Inshore Rescue were tasked to their 8th callout of the year on Wednesday Morning shortly after 9am after an emergency call was taken by Solent Coastguard.

A Shetland 570, which had anchored West of Ryde Pier overnight to avoid travelling in the fog sustained a flat battery and required assistance to get back to their home port of Langstone.

Ryde Rescue 1 to the rescue
Ryde Rescue 1, helmed by Senior Coxswain Nic White launched to the vessel and towed it to Ryde Harbour where the battery was charged; However it soon became apparent that the vessel also had engine problems unrelated to the battery and they were still unable to make their own way home.

Ryde Rescue 1 put the vessel back under tow and set off on a lengthy journey to Langstone Harbour returning the casualty safely home.

Ryde Rescue One recovered at 1330hrs, just under four hours after they went afloat, where the volunteer crew promptly washed the boat down then raced back to work to make up for the lost hours that morning.
