The Cowes Floating Bridge, which has been out of action since 26th August 2021, will not be back in service for at least another six weeks.
The Isle of Wight council say that “work continues to return the floating bridge to service as swiftly and safely as possible”.
By the time it returns to service in Mid-November, it will have been out of action for 11 weeks.
The council explain,
“Unfortunately, the latest report from our specialist contractors is that the extent of the damage is greater than originally anticipated and the repairs will take longer to complete.
“The service is now not expected to resume until mid-November.”
Apology
The council spokesperson adds,
“We can only apologise for the ongoing disruption to the service caused by a major fault with one of the vessel’s main engines.”
A launch service for foot passengers and cyclists will continue to operate from 5am until 11pm (6.30am until 11pm Sundays).
