Given the amount of rainfall in the last few hours, we can expect a flurry of flood warnings from the Environment Agency today (Thursday).
Following flood alert for Lukely Brook, another has just been issued for Monktonmead Brook at St John’s Road, St John’s Station and Park Road.
Issued at 4.19pm, the warning reads:
The water level in the Monktonmead Brook at St John’s Station is high and rising. Heavy and intense rain has fallen with 20 mm in 4 hours recorded at Ryde. This is a large amount in a short period of time, falling on an already saturated catchment. From 17:00 this evening 04/01/24, water will begin to flow across the railway tracks, upstream of St Johns Station.
Flooding of the station buildings or property is not expected.
Please consider moving vehicles from depots located next to the river and railway line. The river is expected to peak by 21:00. Our operational staff are keeping the Monktonmead Brook clear of blockages.
The weather is forecast to improve from the early hours of tomorrow morning, with very little rain forecast for the next 5 days. This will allow the river to return to normal seasonal levels.
