Flooding Causes Havoc On Island RoadsThe Met Office have a severe weather warning in place for the South region. It currently runs until 120am, we’ll update you if this changes.

The heavy rainfall has affected many parts of the Island, below is an update from our Facebook and Twitter community.

If you get a photo on your mobile, you can send them to us on 0770 82 82 078, or via email (ventnorblog[at]gmail.com), Facebook, Twitter (@VentnorBlog)

Alleigh Shaw: Binstead Rd closed at the roundabout at Ringwood Rd. All traffic diverted thru Jellicoe Rd, Mayfield Rd etc. CHAOS already!

Bill Millford: BIG PUDDLE ALERT. Great Preston Rd, Ryde. Bottom of Beaper Shute. Top of Brading (where they spent weeks re doing the drains) Beacon Alley nr Godshill, Ashey Rd multiple places. Smallbrook/ Pennyfeather Lane.

Wightlink Ben Rue: Hi just heard that the trains are not running between Ryde pier head & Ryde St. Johns (Confirmed below. Ed)

Reg White: Trains stopped due to flooding. Train ‘abandoned’ or stranded at Ryde Esplanade. Don’t fancy a walk up the wet and windy pier so now on the hover which is obviously still running. Big flood in Binstead. Fire engines out on the roads.

No.3 bus driver: Beaper Shute and Lake like a river!

Alleigh Shaw: All traffic going out of Ryde is being pushed into Binstead Estate at Mayfield Road. It’s mental. No police diversion assistance which is helpful. Plenty of road rage in there :/

Linda Cheeki Bassett: Bottom of Easthill Rd Ryde shut.

Reg White: We got through on the bus as the police let the driver through. A bow wave was visible against the windscreen (and they are pretty high) So it was no surprise that there was a LOT of water inside the bus. Happy days (Happened in Binstead).

@davidatkinson89: RT @HannsGrace I drove home ten mins ago and seafront is all flooded and all by my house, like East Hill Road and The Strand!

@simonlilly: Big queues into Ryde, backlog into Binstead. Not quite grid lock, but very slow moving.

Riccardo Stanbridge: Problems for people getting out of Havenstreet too!

Peter Jones: *Who* knows what’s going on with Staplers?! Stationary from Robin Hill for the last 20min!

Nikki Barnett: Bus that goes from St Helens to Ryde High (via Seaview) is stuck in Seaview as there is a vehicle stuck along Duver Road. Also road by Wishing Well is flooded. My children phoned and told me as they are on the bus!

Charlotte Le Brecht: Headed down Beacon Alley between Chale and Godshill onto the Whitwell road just after 8am. It was flooding both sides of the road and had started joining in the middle, don’t think you could get a small car through the water that was there then and it is still raining now. The water is flooding from both ends of the shute but was particularly bad at the Godshill end by the bridge. Stay clear of that road!

Wayne Simmonds: The bottom of York Avenue in East Cowes nearly 2 feet of water. Shops and homes being flooded and typical IOW council, no sand bags and this weather was forecast.

Lisa Cotton: St Johns train station completely under water.

Arabella Trickey: Queues are very long into Newport. BIG puddle opposite Island Harbour.

Linda Cheeki Bassett: Police just shut Westhill Rd, Ryde from Park Rd to bottom of rd

Wendy Hayden: Going through Binstead either way is taking literally about 45 mins, all traffic having to be diverted through the estate. Quarr Hill at the dip in nearly knee deep. just took me from half 8 to 9 55 to get into Ryde from Medina school!

@KelvinCurrie: Many patches of flooding on Newport-Yarmouth road. Care needed, but still passable.

Amanda Tickle: I have just been through Havenstreet then Firestone Copse and it was fairly free of traffic and the flooding wasn’t too bad…..The racecourse heading towards Newport was blocked with traffic and it took me 45 mins to get through to Coppins Bridge!

Louise ‘Bapz’ Woolford: As predicted Newport to Brighstone via Shorwell is horrendous. About 1ft deep along the stretch of road about 100 yards. And very stupid drivers about.

Rocio Gonzalez-Medland: Power cable down on prices Road, Freshwater. NO traffic. Police and fire engines are there waiting for engineers to come.

Dee Ferris: Highwood Lane – between Rookley and Chillerton – totally impassable – unless you have a 4 wheeled drive – 11.30am

12.36pm Linda Cheeki Bassett: Easthill Rd – Ryde was open 20min ago. Westhill Rd open at top but blocked of from Park Rd to bottom of Westhill Rd near Strand

Rocio Gonzalez-Medland: Freshwater: Princes Road now reopened. Traffic and no. 7 bus passing trough. : )

UPDATE: 11:08 Kelvin Curry called VB to let us all know that he’d just driven from Newport to Yarmouth and says, “If you have a chance, don’t attempt the journey.” Specifically, the A3054 by Badger Bend is seriously flooded, with only high-up vans and 4x4s getting through. Cars are being forced to turn around as the water is too deep for them.

Shells Bells:The entrance road at Matalan had a massive puddle right across the road, take it slow!

Lee Firth: just drove by toilets by the trampolines.. and the sea is almost coming on the pavement (Ryde)

Sue Younghusband: Bohemia corner is not as flooded now as it was this morning

George Booth: There is a moss tours coach that has broken down on Fairlee Road, cause big tailbacks right back to the dual carriageway.
