The Environment Agency have issued another Flood Alert for the Isle of Wight, this one for the Eastern Yar.
It reads:
“Flooding is possible for: Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge. Be prepared.
“The water level in the Eastern Yar remains very high at Alverstone. It continues to rise in Sandown. In the last 24 hours, 23mm of rain was recorded in Knighton.
“Currently, in Alverstone, the river is flowing fairly near to the top of the river bank. From 19:00 this evening (20/10/21) and continuing overnight into Thursday (21/10/21), further heavy rain is forecast, with 20mm to 40mm expected. If heavy rain does affect the Eastern Yar, then from 21:00 this evening, the river will begin to flood land and fields.
“Overnight it could affect the access track to Horringford, flood gardens in Alverstone and Langbridge and flood Golf Links Road. We will be monitoring river levels closely, and our operations staff will work to ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages.
“Please ensure that any pumps used to protect property can operate. If you have it, and live next to the river, please consider installing flood protection.”
Update: Issued 8.44am Thursday
“The water level in the Eastern Yar remains very high and continues to rise. Yesterday (20/10/21) 55mm of rain was recorded at Knighton.
“Currently, the river is near the top of the bank in Alverstone. Field flooding is expected along the Yar Valley.
“Golf Links Road will be flooded and today (21/10/21) minor impact flooding will affect Moreton Common Road. Land around holiday parks in Sandown may flood, as water will struggle to drain to the river. Over the next few days, the weather will be settled and dry.
“In Alverstone, the river should stabilise around 10:00 this morning (20/10/21), remaining high for several hours, it is unlikely to begin to lower until this afternoon. During this time, it may cause some minor impact flooding to gardens.
“In Sandown, the river will continue to rise until the early hours of Friday morning (22/10/21). As it peaks, it may be bank full at Sandown Road Bridge. We continue to monitor the forecast. Please avoid walking or driving through flood water.
