Well done to Andy and Jillie for organising this fundraising event that took place at the weekend and thanks to Linda for sending through her report of the event. Ed
On Saturday, the small village of Porchfield reverberated to intriguing and wonderful sounds.
The big hearted folk community on the Island (and some beyond) turned out to give their time freely to raise money for the Fukushima appeal, where people are suffering effects from the recent Tsumani disaster.
People of Porchfield, friends of the folk community and others came to support the event, bringing their families with them, from tiny babies bouncing in time to the music, to the very elderly singing along too.
Plenty besides the music
Besides being a treat for the ears and eyes, there was food, drinks and origami crane-making to enjoy.
A wealth of creative talent filled the space, which included well known groups of musicians, solo artists, and musical families.
There were new and traditional folk songs, and poignant reminders of what the day was about, with talks and poetry reading accompanied by music. Skilled dancers performed speedy rhythmic clog dances, and exuberant morris dancers proved infectious with their high spirits.
The day was a mix of great fun alongside moments of tender reflection and empathy.
The stirling efforts of the organisers, Andy and Jillie, along with the support of a dedicated team of friends made the event a wonderful tribute to the spirit of friendship and practical support extended to the suffering people of Japan.
You can still help
An amazing £796.54 was raised for the appeal, but there is still time to add to this.
