Under 13s Football: Sandown and Lake versus Shanklin FC

Many thanks to Tony Suckling (whose son plays for Sandown and Lake U13s) for this match report from Sunday’s game between Sandown and Lake U13s and Shanklin FC U13s. Ed

The opening match of the season for both teams saw the seasonal change in the weather of torrential rain and wind.

Both teams made a solid start with action at both ends of the pitch, but the breakthrough came by Sandown on 29 minutes after a sublime cross from Antony Kettell to Aedan Coode who outclassed the goalkeeper with a shot into the left hand side of the goal.

Half time finished at 1-0.

Six minutes into the second half Jack Youngson laid the ball on for Kettell who ran the ball in and slotted it past the goalkeeper.

On 44 minutes, a rare mistake from Shanklin goalkeeper as he tried to clear the ball out from his six yard box for it to hit Kettell on the back to end up in the goal.

Sandown continued to dominate most of the second half when Youngson passed a ball from inside the penalty area for a Shanklin defender, trying to clear it, hit the ball into his own net on 65 minutes.

On 68 minutes Youngson crossed the ball for Todd Wakeford to scramble it home for Sandown’s fifth goal.
