Roll of cash:The Island’s MP, Andrew Turner, has welcomed support from the Government for four Island schools in need of upgrading or urgent repair work.

An announcement was made yesterday that :

Carisbrooke College;
Christ the King College;
Oakfield C of E Aided Primary School; and
Ryde Academy

will receive capital funding to update or upgrade their facilities.

Pleased with successful bids
Mr Turner said following the announcement, “Successful teaching is more related to what goes on in the classroom rather than whether it takes place in a modern building, however up-to-date facilities help.

“I am very pleased that four Island schools have made successful bids for support – particularly as there are many schools, particularly in inner-city areas, that have had a great deal of funding under the previous government.

“This is further evidence that this Conservative led government are taking notice of the Island’s needs and I welcome today’s announcement from the Secretary of State, Michael Gove MP.”
