A section of St George’s Way in Newport will be reduced to one southbound lane for four weeks from early next month.
The closure will allow Island Roads to replace 85 metres of safety fencing above the carriageway.
Four weeks of closure
As the fencing sits several metres above the road, a platform will be installed in one of the southbound lanes to provide safe access for the workforce.
The restriction will remain in place from 3rd to 28th November.
Safety and timing considerations
Island Roads says it aims to complete the work ahead of the main winter season.
A spokesperson explained,
“Modern regulations mean we cannot undertake this important work without erecting a scaffold structure both to ensure the safety of our workforce and to prevent debris from falling onto the road below.
“We’d like to thank residents in advance for their understanding during work.”
