The sun it out and it looks like it going to be a fab weekend.
What better than to get healthy and get out on your bike?
In you’re in the West Wight area tomorrow afternoon and you’re between five and 16 year olds (or you’re parent of one) you can go along from the 2pm start for the opening of cycling sessions … and it’s not going to cost you a penny!
Led by Wight Trash
It’s being led by Wight Trash – well-known Island skate brand – who are tuned into to what the young people want.
Not only will you learn how to ride safely, but you can get tuned up on bike maintenance.
As a special bonus, one of the Wight Trash bike riders, James Sumner (pictured), will be doing some tricks and stunts on his bike. As you can see from the photo, he can do some pretty crazy stuff.
It’s going to be a regular Saturday event running all the way up to the Isle of Wight cycling festival in September.
The community decided
It’s come about via a scheme called Participatory Budgeting originated in South America. Some money is put forward to the community, which decides where it’s to be spent.
The assumption is pretty logical – the community know what they want to do the most.
A number of possible events and ideas are put into a list, them, in this case, the young people in the area are able select their favourite thing.
Where and when
Best to get there for the 2pm start, outside West Wight youth club in Moa Place, Freshwater – 100 yards from the skate park.
It’s on for an hour, so don’t miss out.
Bring your bike (obviously!) and if you’ve got safety gear, bring it along, other some will be available if you don’t have any.
Mums and Dads are welcome too.
It’s free!
