If you had £3 million to transform Sandown, where would you start?
The Tide Turners team want to hear your answers today (Wednesday 21st October) at the free half-term Sandown Town of Culture Day.
As mentioned last week, it runs from 10am to 3pm at the Trouville Hotel on the seafront, with family entertainment, hands-on discovery and the chance to help shape the town’s final bid.
The day brings together the artists and pioneers who make the town tick.
Hands-on discovery
The Common Place is setting up Discovery Bay, a hands-on pop-up natural history museum. Visitors can pick up 100-million-year-old fossils, bones and skulls, or meet local mini-beasts under a giant micro-eye microscope.

There will be workshops with artists Sue Paraskeva (10am to 12pm) and Laura Hathaway (12.30pm to 2.30pm), who will lead origami dream-folding. Paper Pavilions runs from 10am to 3pm, and Sandown’s own Graft Studios will also be running creative activities.

The Independent Arts Seed Archive and Town of Culture engagement activities will be open all day. Listen Up! films will play on a loop in the cinema.

Have your say
Sandown is one of just 15 finalists out of nearly 400 towns across the UK competing to be UK Town of Culture 2028. The Tide Turners’ final bid goes in on 30th November.
Visitors can say what they want to see, hear and experience across the town, including their thoughts on the 2028 Tide Turner Festival.
Come get inspired, have your say and help Sandown Turn the Tide.
