You remember that we’re always looking for positive stories about the IW Council. We know that loads of the people who work there are diligent and do their best, even if a couple of the departments let the rest of them down (press communications and planning in our experience).
One great scheme run by the council — under the County Instrument Service — that came in to view recently, is connected to schools and learning to play instruments.
Many parents don’t want to rush out and buy relatively expensive musical instruments for their children if they’re not sure that their child will continue to learn beyond their initial burst of enthusism.
A scheme run by IW Council lets children elect to borrow a Viola, Euphonium, Trombone, Cello or French horn for the first three terms while they get the introductory musical tuition sorted.
Not only is the hire of the instrument free, but so is the tuition!
What a great way of improving the take up of musical instruments.
It’s bold actions like this that build on the Island being such a hot bed for musical talent.
