Singabout logoFree singing clubs for older people to boost memory and wellbeing have been launched by Isle of Wight charity Independent Arts in Newport and Freshwater.

SingAbout is based on recognised music therapy and can help improve memory, breathing, movement, speech and confidence.

When and where?
The sessions run every Monday at Freshwater Memorial Hall from 10.30-12.30, and every Tuesday at St John’s Hall in Newport from 2-4pm, with volunteers on hand to assist, and refreshments provided.

No musical background is necessary, and family or carers are welcome to accompany participants.

Delighted to offer free clubs
Independent Arts’ manager Kate Ball said, “We’re delighted to offer these free singing clubs, led by a trained practitioner, and eventually we hope to be able to start more sessions in other venues across the island.”

The sessions are sponsored by Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, the Co-operative Membership Community Fund and the Alzheimer’s Society.
