Isle of Wight Council and Island Roads have introduced a temporary no waiting restriction on Afton Road, the approach to Freshwater Bay.
The restriction applies to the west side of the road, the northbound carriageway as drivers head away from the Bay.
Cones mark out the restricted stretch, and the measure will be enforced by Isle of Wight Council until early September.
Why the restriction is needed
Island Roads says the road has repeatedly seen cars parking on both sides during the holiday period, when people visit Freshwater Bay for the sea and the surrounding downland.
Afton Road carries a bus route and serves as a key link for emergency service vehicles.
An Island Roads spokesperson said,
“As we are now in the key summer holiday period, Isle of Wight Council and Island Roads are taking some temporary steps to secure the free flow of vehicles through this busy area, which is a bus route and also a key link for emergency service vehicles.”
A short-term fix while options are considered
Island Roads frames the cones as a stopgap, brought in while officers weigh up a longer-term answer for the area.
A spokesperson said,
“This a short-term solution which will give us valuable knowledge and feedback while we consider the use of an experimental parking restriction for the area and ultimately develop the long-term solution to managing the network in this area.”
