Brian Cowser, who works in the ticket office at Fishbourne for Wightlink Ferries has been awarded the company’s Extra Mile award for helping to save a passenger’s life at the terminal.

He sprang into action with the terminal’s defibrillator on hearing that a customer had suffered a cardiac arrest at the gate, carrying out CPD, and then reassuring her family once paramedics and an ambulance had arrived.

Consequence could have been catastrophic
Duty Port Operations Manager Stephen Mills explains:

“Without Brian’s intervention, the consequence could have been catastrophic, he was so very calm and measured in his actions and an absolute credit to the company.”

The customer did not want to be named.

20 years of service
Brian, from Shanklin, is in his 20th year of working at Wightlink’s Fishbourne terminal.

Wightlink Chief Executive Keith Greenfield congratulated Brian personally,

“Brian knew exactly what to do when the emergency happened, we all congratulate him for his swift action.”
