Ben Sanderson, Ryde Rowing Clubs Novice Sculler who finished in 2nd place in his final

Frustrating day for Ryde Rowing Club at the re-run of Poole Regatta

It was a disappointing and frustrating day for the crews and scullers from the Wightlink sponsored Ryde Rowing Club at the re-run of Poole Regatta on Saturday (6th Aug 2022) following the event’s cancellation earlier in the season.

The Junior Senior Four of Ben Sanderson, Dale Buckett, brothers Joel and Austin Smith, with Niamh Murphy coxing, were leading their race, but unfortunately their turn proved to be something of a disaster and they dropped into second place which was where they remained for the rest of the race.

This crew then split into small boats – with Dale Buckett racing really well in the Men’s Senior Sculls to finish in second place.

Men’s Novice Single Sculls
Ben and Austin competed in the Men’s Novice Single Sculls where, unfortunately having comfortably made it through his heat, Austin had to withdraw from the final after feeling unwell.

However Ben Sanderson (pictured above) – who also made the final – produced one of the Ryde Club’s best performances of the day to finish in second place.

Coastal Junior Pairs
The Club’s two Coastal Junior Pairs crews of Ben Sanderson and Austin Smith and Paddy Kearney and Will Hunt finished second and third respectively in their Final.

Men’s Novice Four
The Men’s Novice Four of Yogi Ashworth, Issac Gibson, Edward Williams and Dan Sanderson coxed by Mai McKay rowed well to finish fourth in their final.

Boy’s J16 Coxed Quad
The Boy’s J16 Coxed Quad of Edward Williams, Elliott O’Sullivan, Bradley Whiting and Issac Gibson will be slightly disappointed with their fourth place in their final.

Sculls
Dan Sanderson raced well to finish fourth in the final of the Boy’s J16 Single Sculls event and  Niamh Murphy also performed well to finish in fifth place in the Women’s Novice Sculls.

Men’s Coastal Junior Four
The Men’s Coastal Junior Four of Bradley Whiting, Paddy Kearney, Will Hall and Elliott O’Sullivan coxed by Niamh Murphy unfortunately failed to make the start of their race after they had rowed too far away in their warm-up.
