The Cowes Yacht Haven events centre will host a night of dinner and dancing in aid of the Martin Poynter Trust on 2nd April.

£6,000 target
The black tie event will kick-start at 7:30pm running until midnight, tickets are £30 and can be purchased through the charity’s Facebook page.

The night is expected to raise £6,000 and will go to the Stroke Association, which supports stroke suffers and families on the Island.

Much-loved firefighter
The event will celebrate the life of Martin Poynter, a much-loved firefighter on the Island, who played an instrumental role within the community.

Martin contributed to charity work and served diligently as a member of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, before he died suddenly from a short illness last year in March.

Event on Martin’s birthday
Organisers have chosen to hold the night of celebration on Martin’s birthday. Over 250 people are expected to attend the night. Guests can enjoy a three-course dinner, a raffle and a dance to the beats of a Juicebox.

Claire Poynter, event organiser, said:

“Over the last ten months the Trust has held a range of events to raise funds for the Stroke Association. We want to draw everyone’s attention to strokes, which is the third biggest cause of death in the country. And make people aware of its causes and prevention.”

Ian Gregory, operations manager at Cowes Yacht Haven, said:

“We are honoured to celebrate the life of Martin Poynter. The event will showcase the Island coming together to support the work the trust is doing to raise awareness of stroke prevention. It will be a brilliant night and one to remember.”
