Garlic Festival 2010: Make It A Date

Many thanks to the Garlic Festival organisers for helping to support VB by sponsoring this article.

Garlic Festival 2010: Make It A DateWe’re sure that you may well have been to the Garlic Festival at least once or twice over the years – it has been providing live music, food and entertainment for 27 years after all.

VB will be doing a few articles in the build up to the event next weekend to re-remind you what has kept many people returning year after year.

Not only is a great gathering point – bringing together people from every corner of the Island – but there’s plenty to keep you stimulated while you’re there.

A positive haven for foodies
One thing we’ve always been really impressed with at the Garlic Festival is the massive selection of quality food.

Not only what you can buy to eat there, but also what you can buy to take home and cook yourselves.

Keeping it local
Of course, the Island is very lucky to have masses of food producers on the Island, so look out for Hamiltons Fine Foods; Minghella Ice Cream; stalls featuring Isle of Wight tomatoes; cake stalls; the super-tasty sweetcorn; not to mention sausages (of every kind!); the IOW Proper Burger Co; Mediterranean and Spanish food; strawberries and cream; homemade lemonade; the tiny tea tent and so much more.

We also hear that Michelangelo’s Italian Restaurant in Ryde will be there selling homemade Lasagne, Tirimisu and specialty tomato sauces.

Amazing Island Cheeses
The Cheese Food Hall will be welcoming many Island producers of cheese, including our mates from the IOW Cheese Co with their award-winning cheeses.

Garlic Festival 2010: Make It A DateGarlic galore
There is, of course, a huge selection of garlic on offer in the Garlic Marquee. Clearly dominating the space is produce from the excellent Garlic Farm (based just up the road, the other side of Newchurch), but alongside their fayre you’ll find other garlic delights in the form of garlic beer, garlic fudge, garlic ice cream …. the list goes on.

Supermarket support
Sainsburys are back again and this time bringing their ‘try team’.

If you haven’t seen it before, it’s the trailer featured in the adverts with celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver.

They’re planning all sorts of delicious activities for you to get involved with.

And there’s more
Later in the week we’ll be bringing you news about the superb live music and masses of entertainment that’s on offer at the Festival for all the family.

For more details, check out the event listing on Events on the Wight which will be updated nearer the time with running order for bands.
