Gatsby-themed Glam Ball raises £33,000 for WightAID Foundation

Generous revellers raised an incredible £33,000 for Island charity WightAID at a 1920’s Glam Ball hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes.

The Gatsby-themed event was organised by the WightAID Foundation to raise funds for good causes across the Island through its grant-giving programme.

It was generously supported by headline sponsor WightFibre and countless other businesses who donated services and prizes for the raffle and auction.

Almost 200 attended
The ball was attended by 190 guests who as well as enjoying a three-course dinner were treated to acrobatic displays by aerial performers Jayden Lee Arts and Wight Arts and musical performances by Jukebox Jazz and the Gatsby Girls – who also gave guests a Charleston lesson after dinner.

There was also a casino running throughout the evening and fun portraits by AdamArt Caricatures.

Underwood: Wonderful to host such a large event again after a two-year break
Founder of WightAID Geoff Underwood said,

“I’d like to thank all those who came to the ball and gave so generously to support deserving projects within our community.

“It was wonderful to host such a large event again after a two-year break due to Covid, and to see our supporters in their glad rags enjoying the 1920s themed fun in the glorious surroundings of the Royal Yacht Squadron.

“Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters – and all those who attended – for making the event such a success.”
