Christ the King College is celebrating their long awaited first set of GCSE results.
College Principal, Pat Goodhead, said, “I am absolutely thrilled for our first Year 11 cohort who have achieved what are undoubtedly an outstanding set of results.
“Our students have achieved an exceptional 77% 5A* “ C, including English and Maths, the figure which is the most important and crucial indicator of success, the highest overall pass rate ever achieved on this measure by an Isle of Wight state school.”
Christ the King in the top 25% in England
Ms Goodhead”It quite clearly demonstrates that Island young people can achieve results to compare favourably with their peers across the country, with this excellent result placing Christ the King in the top 25% of similar schools in England.
“Also, it is important to point out that their excellent overall score of 85% 5A* “ C reflects subjects which are academic, rigorous and respected by universities and employers. I cannot congratulate students and staff enough for their hard work, commitment and determination which have brought such well” deserved success.”
Many personal outstanding achievements
The College’s results include many outstanding personal achievements by individual students, with approximately a quarter of the students achieving A* and A results and over 50% achieving at least a B grade.
However, what is important to the College is that individuals fulfil their potential and all students, regardless of their results and plans for next year, were offered personal support and guidance during Results Day which will continue during the coming week before the new academic year begins.
Recent successful Ofsted inspection
The College’s success follows the recent successful Ofsted inspection which praised the College’s well thought out and planned curriculum for having “some notable features, including the provision of Latin” and the “wide range of opportunities which enhance the curriculum well.”
The vast majority of Christ the King College Year 11 students are continuing their education into the inaugural Sixth Form which begins this September. Commenting on the Sixth Form, Pat Goodhead added that, “These results demonstrate, if ever there was any doubt, of the importance of the provision of a
Sixth Form at the College. The achievements at GCSE will give our students and those joining us a wonderful basis on which to continue their studies through to A Level, continuing to achieve their full potential in a rigorous, enjoyable and caring ethos.”
