GCSE Results: Students at Christ the King display resilience in achievements

News shared by Caroline on behalf of Headteacher, Mr Andrew Montrose. Ed

Sixth Form students at Christ the King College performed outstandingly well after last week’s
A-level results day; Year 11 students have followed their example this week with a great
showing in the GCSE results day.

Against the backdrop of an interrupted education caused by the pandemic and industrial
action, 16 year olds at Christ the King have demonstrated strength of character, determination
and resilience to overcome many hurdles to achieve a highly commendable set of GCSE and
BTEC results.

Breadth and variety of subjects offered
Our curriculum offer here at Christ the King is second-to-none, in terms of the breadth and
variety of subjects offered – from Latin and Music to Photography, Drama and Food
Technology, our suite of subjects on offer has something for everyone. These subjects also
give students at Christ the King a clear pathway into our Sixth Form curriculum offer.

The whole community of Christ the King is incredibly proud of our students, who have
collectively and individually reflected and lived out our Vision:

To be an inclusion and aspirational Christian College where everyone has the opportunity to
achieve their potential – and beyond.

Passionate and loyal teaching and support staff
Thanks must be extended to the passionate and loyal teaching and support staff at Christ the
King, for the help and the time they have devoted to this Year group. Likewise, thank you to
the parents/carers and Governors who have shown compassion, belief, and commitment
throughout what has been a challenging few years for these young people.

Whilst all students at Christ the King deserve plaudits, special mention must be made to those
who have achieved some phenomenal top-end grades, and also those students who have
made exceptional progress – too many to mention by name!

This cohort of students have led the way for others
With an increase in enrichment and leadership opportunities, improvements in teaching and
learning strategies, and a values-driven agenda outside the classroom, this cohort of students
have led the way for others to be even more successful in the future.

The majority of these Year 11 students will continue their post-16 education with us here at
Christ the King into our popular and successful Sixth Form, with others doing likewise
elsewhere on the Island.

Whatever the future holds for our Year 11 students, we wish them well. God bless them all
as they take the next steps on their journey.

From what I have heard from Long-Covid survivors around the world, their aftereffects don’t respond well to graduated exercise, and this has been confirmed by scientific studies. Our clinic might take that into account.

Thankfully our NHS is looking forward, there will be many long term side effects for some that will require future NHS intervention. This is not just Island related but the world. Communication is the key – joint communication.

It is excellent that post viral syndrome is receiving attention. The symptoms are debilitating and rob sufferers of their lives. We have every sympathy for patients whose illness extends over many weeks. But what about ME/CFS sufferers? Apart from problems specific to the initiating virus (eg lung damage with Covid) the long term symptoms are the same. Neither is well understood and it is not possible to… Read more »
