Residents who use clear recycling sacks are being reminded that the Isle of Wight Council will no longer provide rolls of the sacks from 31 January.
Currently, when residents are low on the sacks they contact the council to request more and are given a code. They then use this code to pick up the sacks from their local library.
Gull-proof sacks
As part of the new waste contract with Amey, any households that are not suitable for a green recycling bin will instead be given a gull proof sack for their waste and one for their recycling.
These will be delivered during the spring and residents will be informed when they start to be rolled out. Amey is currently undertaking a new survey of all households to see which properties are suitable for a green bin and which will be given a gull proof sack.
Contact the council
Residents who are running low are advised to contact the council and request a new roll before the 31 January deadline. Each roll contains 50 clear sacks, which is anticipated will last until the gull sacks are introduced.
Anyone who runs out of clear sacks between the start of February and the introduction of the gull sacks should use white or clear sacks for their recycling waste which they can purchase from most convenience stores or supermarkets. Recycling waste should not be put out for collection in coloured or black sacks as it will not be collected.
To request a roll of clear sacks before 31 January, residents should contact (01983) 823777.
