Earlier this month, OnTheWight helped out with an appeal for donations to the first Gifts of Love campaign.
Nina Molloy and her husband felt “so blessed to be welcomed with open arms and an abundance of help and support to become established and a part of the community” that they wished to give something back this Christmas.
They set up the appeal asking for donations (and help) to make up Gifts of Love packs for people who are alone this Christmas.
50 Gifts of Love
Nina has been in touch today to let us know that a whopping 50 Gift of Love packs were created and she’s delivering the last five of them today.
She says,
“They have reached out into the West Wight community touching the hearts of people in various situations. Volunteers and I have had the blessing of giving joy to single mums, lonely people whose spouse has passed away and are facing their first Christmas alone, elderly who barely had food in their cupboards living independently and homeless people.”
Extending the love to Newport
Blankets and food have been given to the Winter Night Shelter for the homeless (in Newport) and donations have also been given to the Salvation Army Christmas Day dinner for the lonely and alone.
Nina goes on to say,
“The packs also had an amazing response from a couple of people who said thank you for the gesture, but they are not in need of the goods inside as they have means, but they knew someone who could benefit from them and would like to pass on to them to give them a Gift of Love.”
Well done to Nina and all the volunteers who have helped bring some joy to Islanders in the West Wight and Newport this Christmas.
