Girl’s Concerns About Man’s Behaviour In Cowes Prompts Police Appeal

This in from the Police, in their own words. Ed

Police are appealing for information after concerns were raised about a man’s behaviour in Northwood, Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Officers are investigating a report that a 12-year-old girl was approached by a man in the area of Uplands Road and Nodes Road at 7.30am on Thursday, June 9, 2011.

He tried to start a conversation with the girl who declined to speak with him. The man then walked away and left the girl alone as she continued to walk along Nodes Road.

The girl described the man as:

> White
> Average height and build
> Aged in his 50s or 60s
> Bald
> He was wearing beige trousers.

Upset and frightened
Investigating officer PC Scott Cooper of the Isle of Wight’s Targeted Patrol Teams (TPT) said: “The girl was upset and frightened by what happened and I’d like to thank her local school for bringing these concerns to our attention swiftly. Police would always encourage people to act responsibly by reporting information to the authorities if they’re worried about the welfare of a child. We are following several lines of enquiry in the community and our investigation so far suggests this is an isolated case as we have received no other similar reports.

“There could be an innocent explanation or misunderstanding linked to these events, but we’re appealing for this man to come forward and give us more details as soon as possible. Officers also want to hear from anyone who may have noticed a man acting suspiciously in the Nodes Road area of Northwood in Cowes early on Thursday morning.”
