‘Give us a Yard Appeal’ launched to save youth football ground

Thanks to Jess Cutler from Rew Valley Youth FC for sharing details of this fundraising initiative. Please show your support if you can. Ed

Due to a change of use and ownership at our current ground we are trying to raise just under £10,000 for our new ground at Watcombe Bottom.

We have acquired about two acres or roughly 9,680sq yards of overgrown, unlevel land at the site of the old top pitch. This land has been left unused and untouched for 16 years.

Transforming the former site
The money raised will be used for extensive work to clear, excavate and level the site and spread topsoil and grass seed and build a shed for our equipment so the children of Rew Valley Youth fc can use it to play their home fixtures.

If we cannot raise this money the club will ONLY be able to provide room for the U8s and U9s at our current facilities. This means we could not cater for 60% of our club and would have to let the older teams (43 players!) go.

It is also imperative we start this work as soon as possible to ensure a good playing surface in time for next season.

Give us a Yard Appeal
Obviously this is not a situation we want to be in. That’s when it occurred to us that the amount we need to raise works out at about a pound per sq yard. Or basically for every pound we raise, a yard’s worth of work can be completed. Thus the “Give us a Yard Appeal” was born!

With the help of friends and family of the club, the people of Ventnor and the general public we are asking for your help to save our club and help us provide for all our teams.

We are hoping you can help us build the new home of Rew Valley Youth FC and give something lasting to the children of Ventnor… One yard at a time.
